Intern – Sustainability Solutions

for our Utrecht office

The position

You are looking for an outstanding international consultancy that has real impact in transitioning the world to a sustainable, decarbonized energy system. You want to be part of a team with advanced knowledge and insights in the field of sustainable industries, value chains and financing. You like working together on complex problems in projects with colleagues from different backgrounds, driving towards tangible results that make a difference for a wide range of clients. You would like to develop new skills rapidly and look forward to going out of your comfort zone.

As an Intern at Navigant (former Ecofys) in Utrecht you will work on several projects. The themes you will work on are diverse and may vary from assessing the environmental performance of products and corporate value chains to conducting a scenario for a transition to a fully renewable global energy system. You will be responsible for data gathering and analysis, industry research, writing reports and presenting your findings to the team. In this role you will learn, be challenged and develop skills at a fast pace. In addition to hands-on experience, a formal training program will teach you the diverse skills you need to succeed.

Your profile

If you are enthusiastic about the role described above and you meet the following criteria, then we would be happy to meet you.

  • University degree, preferably in a related discipline (or soon to be graduated) such as Economics, Finance, Energy Science;
  • Strong interest in energy and climate change issues;
  • Understanding of Dutch Climate Accord;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Dutch and English;
  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
  • Ability to think critically and independently;
  • Proactive approach to work, enthusiasm and initiative;
  • Ability to receive/integrate feedback.

Timeframe

The position starts as of 1 September 2019 and preferably runs for at least 6 months. Part-time or full-time options can be discussed.

Energy System Transformation: A Transformation Offering within Navigant’s Energy Practice

Our Energy Systems Transformation team provides strategic and management consultancy and implementation support to companies across the energy value chain that aim to develop new business on these emerging opportunities. Amongst these opportunities are the implementation of new technological developments that are needed to equip energy systems with storage functionality, flexibility between power and fuels, interconnectivity between regions of supply and demand, and novel services powered by data resulting from the digitalization of the energy system. Our strength lies in strategic understanding of complex relations between technology, policy and business and our ability to translate that into actionable advice for our clients.

  • Final year of master program, preferably in a related discipline (or soon to be graduated) such as Energy Science or Mechanical Engineering;
  • You have experience with technical programming and/or modelling (for example with GAMS, PLEXOS, dispatch modelling or other);
  • You are interested in tackling system integration and optimization issues;
  • Strong interest in energy and climate change issues;
  • Knowledge of the energy system and markets is an advantage;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Dutch and English;
  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
  • Ability to think critically and independently;
  • Proactive approach to work, enthusiasm and initiative;
  • Ability to receive/integrate feedback.
